- Rodney Casebier, Ph.D., Facilities Project Manager
“Tom McQuillen showed a remarkable ability to bring together the disparate groups who needed to have input into our master plan. He not only developed a plan that met the strict requirements of Columbia’s staff, he also developed a design that met the stringent cost constraints needed to make the project feasible. Throughout, he was always very much aware of and considered the life of the student on this rural, somewhat isolated site."
Robert J. Edison
Former Director of Development, Columbia University’s Biosphere II Center
Current Executive Director, Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum
Throughout the planning phases, design and detailed development of the building plans Mr. McQuillen spent the time and energy necessary to learn all about the business we are in and the unique population we serve. Tom led a highly collaborative process that involved all levels of our staff, management and board, as well as representatives of our patients and their families. The result was a highly accepted, innovative set of plans that truly incorporates the medical needs of the population we serve, while creating a setting that is comfortable, engaging and child-focused…. A place where kids and their families can feel the love and caring of the staff and see the commitment of the community to help them lead full and healthy lives.
Our board, staff and patients were consistently pleased with the results of the design process and look forward to moving this project to the next stage. He did a great job for us and I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. McQuillen and his firm to other potential clients.

Tom McQuillen, principal of Lizard Rock Designs, and his outstanding team have been working with La Posada at Park Centre, Inc. over the past year helping us to master plan our current 125 acre campus as well as a proposed additional 200 acres. La Posada is a senior living continuing care retirement community that currently has over 700 residents living on the campus and 430 employees.
Tom has excellent experience in the area of master planning and with his talent and knowledge was able to engage our board and senior management team in the process. The LRD team did a thorough study of other like campuses and was able to visually compare the attributes and nuances of those campuses and developments to our site. The scenario planning went rapidly with the aid of many visuals and models… Our team and board are very excited about the master plan results provided by Tom and his group, and would strongly recommend him to any organization embarking n a master planning project.
